Porcelain d'Uccle
The Porcelain d'Uccle is a rare and beautiful bantam chicken breed, known for its soft, pale-colored plumage and gentle, calm temperament. It is a variety of the d'Uccle breed, originating from Belgium, and is highly prized for its delicate appearance and friendly nature.
Key Features:
Appearance: The Porcelain d'Uccle has soft, pale feathers in shades of white and light cream, often with a slight bluish or lavender tint. Their plumage is fluffy and silky, and they have the characteristic feathered legs and feet of the d'Uccle breed. Their small, compact bodies and rose comb add to their charming, ornamental appearance.
Size: As a bantam breed, Porcelain d'Uccles are small, with hens typically weighing around 1.25 lbs and roosters about 1.5 lbs. Despite their small size, they are hardy and robust for bantams.
Egg Production: Like other d'Uccle varieties, the Porcelain d'Uccle is not a prolific egg layer. They typically lay about 100-150 small white eggs per year, making them more of an ornamental breed rather than one used for egg production.
Temperament: Porcelain d'Uccles are known for their calm, friendly, and docile nature. They are social and enjoy human interaction, making them great pets. Their gentle behavior and small size make them ideal for families or people with smaller flocks.
Hardiness: This breed is fairly hardy for a bantam, though, like other feather-legged varieties, they may require protection from very wet or cold conditions. They are well-suited to moderate climates and enjoy a calm, protected environment.
Summary:
The Porcelain d'Uccle is a small, ornamental bantam breed with soft, pale feathers and a calm, friendly temperament. They are ideal as pets or show birds, prized for their beauty and docility rather than egg production. With their unique appearance and gentle nature, they make a lovely addition to any backyard flock.
Bantams are sold as straight run only.
