The Barred Rock chicken, also known as the Barred Plymouth Rock, is a popular and hardy American breed valued for its attractive appearance and excellent egg-laying ability. It's a variety of the Plymouth Rock breed, recognized for its distinctive black and white striped ("barred") plumage. Known for being friendly, reliable, and productive, the Barred Rock is a favorite among backyard poultry keepers.

    • Feathers: Barred Rocks have a striking barred pattern of alternating black and white stripes across their feathers. This unique coloration is one of their most defining features.
    • Size: Barred Rocks are medium-sized birds. Roosters typically weigh around 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg), and hens around 6.5 pounds (2.9 kg).
    • Comb: They have a single comb, which is common in many traditional chicken breeds.
  • Temperament:

    • Barred Rocks are known for their friendly, calm, and social nature. They are often described as docile and are generally good with children and other chickens.
    • They are also fairly curious and enjoy exploring their surroundings, but they are not overly flighty or aggressive.

    • Barred Rocks are excellent egg layers, typically producing around 200–280 large brown eggs per year. They are known for being consistent layers, making them a reliable choice for families or homesteads looking for a steady supply of eggs.

    • This breed is hardy and adapts well to various climates, from hot summers to cold winters. Their size and temperament also make them relatively easy to care for.
  • Purpose:
